Victorian Template with Modifications
Here's the note we received, along with these pictures, from Brian: -------------- This Christmas we started a new tradition that we would each draw a family member's name and hand-make a gift for that person. This was my gift to my 8yr old daughter. I had to be the first one to break a wall and eat candy off it or she would have tried to save it!
You can see from the pictures that I made a couple changes to the windows and added "brickwork" for a fireplace and chimney. I heated the miniature candy canes in the oven for a couple minutes to soften them enough to straighten, cut, and form them. The stained glass is made from different flavored jolly ranchers broken into smaller pieces and heated in the window spaces after the cookies had been baked and cut to exact shape.
This is the first gingerbread house I've made, so I think most of the difficulty I had was no fault of the template, just my steep learning curve. Once I figured out how long to bake the pieces, and what candies to use for the stained glass windows, it was pretty simple. The template was easy to use, and the instructions clear.
The one suggestion I have is to elaborate or offer ideas on how to affix the roof over the porch. After trying several ideas and getting it assembled, I realized it would have been much easier to pipe a line of "glue" along the front of the house and let it dry. Then the roof would be able to rest on it while the front supports are drying.
Overall it was a fun project that allowed me to get creative with not only the candy I used, but the modifications I made. I can see myself trying another of your templates! --------------
