gingerbread going soft

How on earth do you keep gingerbread decorations from going soft & dropping off the tree? It stands to reason that any biscuit is going to go soft when not kept in an air tight tin. Loads of articles in magazines about the joys of these decorations & yet no one mentions the obvious. Mine are all now on the floor having dropped off after one day!!!
